Dr. Liviu Bunaciu is a licensed psychologist who specializes in evidence-based treatments for adults with anxiety-related disorders. Dr. Bunaciu has extensive training and experience providing outpatient, intensive outpatient, and residential treatment for individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and other anxiety-related conditions. Prior to joining the Anxiety and OCD Treatment Services, he provided individual and group-based cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy in a wide range of settings, including multiple specialty anxiety clinics, a VA Medical Center, a private psychiatric hospital, a college mental health center, and a community-based integrated primary care clinic.
Dr. Bunaciu is a graduate of the International OCD Foundation’s Behavior Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) and specializes in providing exposure-based interventions for those suffering from anxiety disorders including panic disorder, agoraphobia, OCD, social anxiety disorder, specific phobias, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), generalized anxiety disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, and health anxiety. In addition to his primary focus on anxiety disorders, Dr. Bunaciu has interests in and experience with treatments for depression, tic disorders, and body-focused repetitive behaviors (e.g., hair pulling, skin picking), and also provides sleep interventions (e.g., Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia or CBT-I; Imagery Rescripting) for individuals struggling with sleep-related difficulties (e.g., insomnia; nightmares). In accordance with evidence-based practice guidelines, Dr. Bunaciu strives to build a collaborative working relationship with clients that is based on the best available research and his clinical expertise, while closely considering each client’s unique characteristics and preferences. Dr. Bunaciu especially enjoys working side-by-side with his clients during exposure practices to help them overcome their fears and live more fulfilling, value-driven lives.
Dr. Bunaciu is licensed in the states of Iowa and Washington. He received his B.A. in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He completed a pre-doctoral internship at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and earned his PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Arkansas. Upon completing his graduate studies, Dr. Bunaciu received additional specialized training by completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the Houston OCD Program, and subsequently worked for 2 specialty anxiety centers in Seattle, Washington and Eugene, Oregon for nearly 6 years.
